Mechanicsville Man Charged With Assaulting Homeowner, Damaging Property: Sheriff

A Maryland man is facing charges after allegedly damaging an area residence and assaulting his victim, the St. Mary’s County Sheriff announced.

Mechanicsville resident Joshua Tyler Churchwell, 28, was taken into custody this week following an investigation into a reported assault in his hometown.

According to a spokesperson from the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to the 26000 block of Laurel Grove Court in Mechanicsville for a reported disturbance on Sunday, June 5.

Officials said that the investigation determined that Churchwell allegedly went to his victim’s home, punched through a window screen, and proceeded to strike the victim in the head, causing “visible injury.”

Churchwell was arrested without incident following the investigation and charged with second-degree assault and malicious destruction of property.

No return court date has been announced.
